Orange Essential Oils

  • Source Plant: Citrus sinensis oil comes from the fruit of a tree belonging to the Rutaceae family.
  • Plant Part Used: Rind or peel.
  • Extraction Method: Cold-pressing.
  • Main Constituent: Most active chemical compounds are Limonene and Myrcene.

  • Orange trees grow in orchards, which originated in the countries of U.S.A., South Africa, Italy, Brazil, Australia, Israel, and China.
  • In general, there are two types of oranges: sweet and bitter. Sweet orange trees are typically smaller than bitter orange trees.
  • Like most citrus fruits, oranges grow best in moderate temperatures (15 to 30°C) and require lots of sunshine and water.
  • Orange essential oil is cold-pressed from the peel of the fruit.
  • This process, which does not use heat is used instead of steam distillation because, heat breaks down delicate citrus molecules.
  • The break down of citrus molecules can result in a bitter, rather than sweet aroma.
